After working extensively in iLife '06, especially with iMovie to iDVD for slide show and video programs of 90 - 120 minutes with very good results, I decided to upgrade to iLife '08. BIG MISTAKE! The limitations in iMovie 08 have made my life miserable. All of the former work that I have opened in 08 no longer play. After varying lengths of time they freeze iMovie or iDVD and I have to force quit the program. I am trying to get back to iLife 06 . This will at least let me access my previous work if I want to make additional copies. HELP!

It has been recommended that I use Final Cut Express for movie production in the future but I have found limited information available on the web. Believe me thorough checking and hands on experience will come before any future purchases.

When I updated to iLife 08 from iLife 06 the updater itself kept the imovie 06 intact on my system. I to, prefer the 06 version of iMovie and use it instead of 08. Both are in my apps, but I use the 06 for making movies. Since they have the slight variation in name (06/08) they should live together fine. (mine does) I found that all of the other 08 programs in the iLife package are improvements....... just not the iMovie. You might just re-install iMovie 06 and use it instead of the new one.

That is exactly what I was doing. Using iMovie '06 to download and work with video and photos and then sending to iDVD '08. for burning. That is when my world collapsed. My local Apple Dealer says there are conflicts between 06 & 08 that are causing my problems.

Have you tried printing any pictures from iPhoto '08? The N-up feature is gone. You can get a contact sheet of 9 pics or single pictures with varying borders but nothing in between. Not helpful when building a collage.

I could not duplicate any of the problems you describe on my MacPro. Old iMovie 06 movies loaded fine in my iMovie 08 and played as they should. As far as iPhoto all the problems you discribed worked fine as well. Printing......I could get as many as 130 pictures on one letter size pice of paper (hard to see but they all printed)..........and I could load any number of pictures between 1 & 130 (on a sheet), by using the customize controls in print. You didn't say what OS or computer you were using, that might be the problem. As far as the N-up feature, I have no idea of what you are referring to.

I'm sorry you are having problems. imovie's new interface which will also be used in iMovie '09 is much better than the iMovie '06 and it's much faster. Problem is it's buggy. I would stop using iMovie 06 ompletely though. It's a dead duck with no support. Either upgrade to iMovie '09 or get Final Cut.
