Help! iPhoto doesn't like my new digital camera.

Santa brought me the newest Canon PowerShot SD1100 for Christmas. It's the newest version of my old camera. I can see the thumbnails on iPhoto. I can see by the information that the files exist and the data is there -- but I can't display the full images to edit into the window. Help! Software is all up to date and I've shut down and restarted numerous times. Any advice?
