Recently when I try to print a mail messages, this is the response I receive: "Couldn’t open the file. It may be corrupt or a file format that Preview doesn’t recognize."

I am running OSX 10.5.6. Any solution to this?

Instead of printing it, try saving it as a PDF, then opening it in preview then printing it. You wouldn't want to do this all the time of course, but try and see if this works for this particular one.

I have since tried to print PDF files and also tax return files from Turbo Tax with the same result. However, if I copy the text from a message into word, I can print. My next option will be to archive my hard drive and reinstall the earlier version of OS X 10.5 and not deal with 10.5.6.

Thank you for your suggestion. Would have been nice if had worked!

Try deleting your printer from the list in the Print/Fax preference pane, and installing it again. Might be easier to give that a try than installing the OS again.

Hi again,

You are so nice to try to come up with solutions. However, I must report that deleting the printer did not work. It sure was a terrific suggestion. I wish it had. I have purchased an external hard drive and am backing up files. We'll see what happens. Any suggestions on which would be the best OS X 10.5 update to use? I did not seem to have a problem with OS X 10.5.5 although I have since read that others have.

Thanks again!
