Dan -- there'll be upgrades, but you won't be able to DIY; take it to an Apple Store or Apple repairperson and cross their palms with silver in significant amounts. Won't matter to the corporate types who can take those costs off their taxes anyway, but then again this machine isn't for the average consumer.

Built-in Super Drive though -- that's impressive; word on the street was that was going to follow the route of the MacBook Air as having to use an external drive. Guess Apple got the message that most people prefer a built-in drive for quick backups of important documents as well as for installing software, especially if it's your primary machine.

Personally I think if Apple doesn't release some update to the mini over the next few months, (and the Mac Pro too for that matter) they should just cancel the product altogether. Its plainly obvious they don't give a damn about selling us affordable lower end systems, so why keep the dead weight in their lineup?
If they continue this trend, Apple will be selling us nothing but laptops in a few years time. Maybe thats just the way the consumer computer trend is headed, but I personally won't like it much. Give me a desktop machine any day.
Honestly Apple, is it really all that hard to throw a little love in the direction of that product?

"10:02 PT - DM: But if you want to get both and haven't upgraded to Leopard. Now there's a "Mac Box Set" where you can get Leopard, iWork '09, and iLife '09 for $169 (that's a pretty darn good deal). It'll shape in late January with iLife '09."
lol typo in last sentence. It'll Shape in late..... lol
Great work guys on the live blogging though.

My sentiments, too. The Mac Mini is important - both in terms of price point and in terms of capability.
I just built a new Mac Pro and it leaves my very built dual 2.7GHz G5 in the dust, but I have a host of customers I provide support for that the Mac Mini is perfect for. I have some waiting right now, as I thought for sure Apple would be smart enough to finally upgrade this great little unit with some of all the effort that's been going to iMacs and laptops these last sixteen or more months since the Mini has gotten a boost.

DRM free for all iTunes music coming later this year. Nice!! As for flexible pricing, I could take it or leave it, but if most of the stuff I want is $0.69, then thats cool. I guess someone (Jobs?) at Apple finally gave in to the flexible pricing model pushed by the labels, or they realized they had to do this to stay competitive against Amazon MP3, et al.
