Reading the Snell-Moren coverage of the Keynote reminds me of nothing so much as the kind of idle chatter you get from the guys calling a football game when it's a 48 - 0 runaway and the first half isn't even over yet. As Yogi Berra said, "it got late very early."

Yes, I saw that earlier today on The Onion website and sent it to a Windows guy who actually believed it. (He said it might be something for his daughter who is more into multimedia than writing emails...)
Gotta love The Onion for some of the best humor on the Internet. :-)

I'd like to say worst comments ever.
Sadly they are par for the course :p
I dunno, the new 17" is pretty cool - the weight for that size of a notebook and the battery life are both pretty amazing. DRM free iTunes is also a huge deal - bye bye Amazon and Walmart! Lastly I'm glad to see Apple keeping to their core and updating their software.
Where are all the people who were complaining that Apple is abandoning their base during the iPhone announcements? Can't come over here and show some love when Apple does update their core competencies?
Bunch of griefers - sheesh....

I disagree. Apple was first about a great OS and cool hardware to run it on.
We heard nothing about the OS today, though many of us were wondering. And we were told about a product that was for a small fraction of the Mac population - especially compared to the number who would have purchased a newer Mac Mini, if it had been announced. It's been more than sixteen months since it saw any attention from Apple. That, in my opinion is far more to their core competence than the iLife or iWork software. As a person who provides Mac support full time - other than the iPhoto that came with their system, very few use or buy iLife and even fewer tap into iWork. I see customers with Mac Minis very regularly and a number of customers with older iMacs that aren't interested in the expense of the limited iMac offerings and the Mac Mini would be perfect. Lame that we have to settle for one that was developed nearly two years ago.

Yes, I agree. "Worst.Keynote.Ever." To which should be added "Last.Keynote.Ever" -- and today's responses on this site very eloquently show why. Folks like most contributors today (me included) are always expecting Apple to pull a rabbit out of a hat by a exposition-specified deadline, as if product rollouts are a form of entertainment. And our expectations have put Apple under a great deal of unnatural pressure to produce, whether their products are really finished or not. The temptation to put out half-baked products just to meet these deadlines must be enormous, and I'm not sure that Apple has always resisted it. And it's been very very hard for Apple to match the buildup of anticipation surrounding these events, the reality always seems disappointing compared to the frenzy of expectations drummed up by the press and by rumor sites (which is why the value of AAPL so often goes down right after them). Now they're free to let products develop in their own good time. Of course, there's a potential downside to this (other than our loss of the fun, which is what's really griping everybody). Showmanship has traditionally been a part of Apple's formula for success, and it's always good to have an attention-getting drumroll when rolling out something new. So it behooves Apple to figure out new ways of doing this, and I'm sure they will--but on their own terms, not somebody else's.

Well said DFS, but I gotta admit it's not making it any easier to swallow. Was really hoping for an i mac update. I really feel for folks waiting for a mac mini update. Like hoping your favorite show doesn't get canceled. I mean really, a mac book pro!? That should have been last on the list for updates.
