this will be useful, as I generally use LOTS of different apps during my day
and this looks like an easy change
but ... sigh
It just seems like this (and a lot of others) ought to be available in System Preferences
having to go to Terminal for these things reminds me too much of DOS
what can I say - I'm a WYSIWYG kind of guy

I've used this utility for many years and can't imagine being without it.

Recent Places refers to the places you have visited by using an application's Open or Save (as?) dialog window. In the popup menu of these windows you will see the list.
This is not the same list as in Finder's Go menu.
In Tiger and earlier some applications maintained their own lists of recent places which was actually quite useful most of the times. That has changed in Leopard where the list is global. That's pretty useful as well, sometimes. But the list is too short by default...

Thanks LouKash. Unfortunately, I rarely use the Open dialog. I am usually editing files that already exist and it's easier for me to open their folder and click them (I am a Web developer, so I am usually opening multiple files from differen sub folders of a site so Open doesn't make sense for me).
Regarding the Go menu. I don't like that if I click GO > Folder or Home, it always takes over the window I already have open, so I actually avoid using Go for that reason. I want it to open a new window. I know I can set Finder the always open new windows in the Preferences, but I don't like that. What I wish is that I could maybe press OPTION while clicking GO > Folder and it opened in a new window. Oh well.

Rob is the one who then publishes the submission there.
Still, Rob definitely deserves some credit for cleaning up my English (which is not my native language) in my original submission... ;)
On the other hand, in my hint I was giving him credit for publishing a tutorial last year on how to proceed if you want to find hidden preferences which you don't even know if they exist in the first place. I wasn't obliged to do that, but I thought it's polite, and encouraging for others to search for other hidden prefs on their own.
