I have an actiontec router and from what I understand I can get my Mac on the internet if I use port forwarding. I gues I set my port forwading to 80 to 80 and the the ip address of my computer in the router setup menu. Is there anything I have to do on the Mac? Is port 80 turned on automtically or do I set the web proxy server to ip adddress and port 80?
very lost?
This is OS 10.4.11

Are you trying to just access the internet or host a website? Enable dhcp and that should be it. Sounds like you have verizon with that router?
Forwarding port 80 would only need to be done for a web server and most isps block it as well as some email ports.

Most residential services block port 80 and 25. You could try but if you just want access to files you may have to use ftp or afp ports etc.

I got a static IP address from Qwest. They told me to set port forwarding on my Actiontec router. I enter the port 80 to 80 with the ip address. Then I change my Ethernet setting on my Mac running Tiger to a static IP and the one i bought from qwest, then I changed the subnet mask to what they said. Then I tried typing in the IP address, but it just times out.
I have searched the web on how to configure my Mac to act as a webserver. I can't find anything. Do I need to setup a web proxy?
