I wanted to try RoadTrip with my Nuvi 370, but there seems to be no way to access the detailed maps (North America and Europe) that came preloaded on the Nuvi -- indeed Garmin email support tells me that this is the case. Without these maps, RoadTrip seems completely useless. So I don't understand the enthusiasm for the product -- or does it work better with other models. Although I know that the 370 is discontinued, it is only just over a year old.

I concur with pghinman37's comments. Having just purchased a Nuvi 770, with maps of Europe and North America preloaded, I received no CDs with maps. And there's no way to get the maps from the Nuvi onto my computer. So.... RoadTrip is pretty much useless without the maps.

Is there anyway to download the maps you've purchased preloaded with your Nuvi from Garmin's website onto your computer? Not that I can see.

One other thing - my Nuvi came with a 60 day "guarantee" that I could download map updates for 60 days. A lie. A misrepresentation. False. Garmin said my Nuvi was "too old" to download the current maps. This is two days after I received my brand new Nuvi.

I ended up, much to my disgust, paying for map updates (I'm going to the U.K.in few weeks and I wanted the most recent maps). The update for the Europe maps, which I paid for, did download to my computer - so I was able to use RoadTrip for Europe. But I am totally unimpressed. The maps are not nerarly as good as those found on Google - with roads misnamed and streets missing. And I find RoadTrip completely non-intuitive - a complete kludge to use.

Unimpressed with Garmin. Unimpressed with RoadTrip.

Error message receiving from nuvi 760
"/Volumes/GARMIN//Garmin/gpx/Current.GPX" is not a valid GPX file and could not be opened.
Any idea? Thanks

Let me preface this by saying I have been using a Garmin handheld GPS and MapSource for Windows since 2003 when I started Geocaching. Since Bootcamp I had an easier way to access Mapsource. When they announced Garmin support for the Mac I was psyched.
RoadTrip 2.0 is one of the lamest pieces of software I have ever encountered. How could you possibly sell map software with Maps you can't print??? Hello.. my GPS runs on batteries, it rains, I fall into a stream and short my GPS. Am I going into the wild without printed maps? I don't think so.
Additionally, you can't save discreet maps with waypoints. It all goes into the database and is saved in one big file without being able to break into discrete trips. So I can't save one copy of the map with waypoints, hike the trail and record a breadcrumb, and then give someone the original waypoints without the breadcrumb.
This program is so misguided it is amazing. I would give it 1/2 mouse.

Hi Omni,
You ever figured out the reason for your error, as I now have the same error.
Everything worked fine in July yesterday (September 26) I could no longer receive the information from my Garmin Nuvi 880 using Garmin RoadTrip for Mac OS X.
Thanks - Steen

I thought alpha males didn't use maps. ;)

I use a Garmin Nuvi 265WT, Garmin RoadTrip, Garmin MapManager, Garmin POI Loader, GMaptoGPX, Google Maps, and a SD card to make my trip info. It also picks up traffic info in the big cities. I use my Mac and Google Maps to build a route, add details, convert it to GPX and put it on the SD card. The built in battery is useful for walking in the city.

wolfjo, I put maps/info into my model of the Garmin with a SD card.

cponeill, my Garmin downloaded the latest maps without a problem. I have heard that some units have been registered and then sold as new so the download by 60 days doesn't work.

Karach, I was able to buy a detailed map for Japan that downloads to a SD card. Garmin also sells a City Navigaor Southeastern Asia map on SD. Thanks for the openstreet link.

danham, thanks for the gpspassion forum link.
