My Mother-in-Law is a wonderful person but not at all tech-savvy. Is there a simple word-processing program for the Mac that you can recommend for beginners? I was going to ask for one that is free, but maybe I should stay with low cost. Thanks in advance!

Full disclosure: I am actually a PC user (don't stone me!:D ) but my Mother-In-Law has an iMac but is having difficulty with the Text Editor program that came with OS X. I think what she probably needs is a simple word processor so she can write letters and perform other simple tasks.

When you talk editors in Mac you usually are speaking to folks that program and those are not the editors your Mom would like if she's having trouble with the editor that came with the Mac TextEdit ?.
So some questions for you:
What iMac does she have e.g. Is it pretty new?
What OS is on it?

Most people use a Microsoft Word editor - Maybe she could use that?
If so then there is something called: http://www.openoffice.org/
Hey guess what? Unlike what Phil Gate$ (or whatever his name is...) it's Open Source read: FREE!
It's easy to download and install - practically installs itself... It has a lookalike: Word, Excel and Powerpoint.

I would suggest NeoOffice, which is based on openoffice, but is simpler.
