I turned on my laptop this morning to find my User Profile corrupted -- and I could not log on to my laptop as I normally do. I had to create a new user account. This resulted in me reinstalling iTunes.

Is there a way to keep my music, playlists, videos, pics, etc?

Can I plug in my itouch (newest version) and have the info transfer back into iTunes?

Does anyone have any advice on how I can salvage all that I have saved in my iTouch?

I would greatly appreciate any & all help...

I can think of a few ways to go back and salvage what you can. The methods all depend on what OS you use, and just how the user profile is corrupted.

If you can still see the folders under your user account, it would be easy enough to drag'n'drop your music on your newly installed iTunes folder. You may even be able to copy over the old library file and point iTunes to open that one instead of your new blank one.

From an admin account or even the root (superuser) account in Mac OS you should be able to see go into other people's folders if you add yourself to the list of approved users for their folders- just select their folder, type command-i, unlock the folder (bottom of the info pane) and click plus to add yourself as having permission to see that folder's contents.

To open the old library file on a Mac, just launch iTunes and hold down the option key as it starts up. You'll be presented with a dialog window that lets you tell it which library file to open (usually named "iTunes Library" in the music folder).

If the profile is corrupted, you may want to use Disc Utility to find permissions issues etc. It can often repair them. If that utility app doesn't work, give cocktail a try: http://cocktail.maintain.se - That little gem can clear up plenty of issues.

To give you windows work arounds, I'll have to wait until I'm in front of my machine at work tomorrow. It would really help if you detailed your problem and machine profile for us.

Your also might want to google search ipod hacks to find a utility that will let you upload music off of your iPod back onto your machine. There are plenty of them out there, and it might just be the easier solution for you.

Good luck, and hope to hear from you soon.
