Darts for iPhone

Perhaps you'd prefer 'Hit Tennis'. You hit the ball by swiping your finger up the screen, controlling strength and direction of the shot. Its a lot of fun. (I wrote it! :-)

i agree, the default settings for darts are pretty dull. however, if you look in the app settings, there is an option to change the aiming mode, so that the actual angle and speed of your flick determines where the dart flies, not an overly easy-to-position target. it's a pretty good casual game with that mode enabled.

Yes, don't read this review and think this game is boring and not challenging. It doesn't appear the reviewer ever changed the settings off of "easy" mode. Kind of like review Quake or Halo in only easy mode. I made the same mistake at first until I looked in the settings after I continuously threw bullseyes at first.

I disagree. This review was clearly written without as much as checking the settings. This game is a lot of fun after you change the throw method to be a bit harder.
Lex, take an extra five minutes next time you review a game and check the settings!
I feel bad for the developer of this great game that MacWorld is giving the shaft with this short sighted review.

Agreed. This is a great game and it's free. It is very challenging and doesn't take long to play. It is fairly stable and the graphics are great. I also feel bad for the developers, but it also offers a lesson in usability. If the developer had made the user settings more apparent, this review would be substantially different. I've always felt that putting the settings for an app in the "settings" app doesn't make sense if you can help it. It's not intuitive at all.

for whatever insane reason, it's actually strongly recommended by Apple to include all preferences in the Settings app. however, since they aren't rejecting apps that do their preferences internally, it makes better sense for devs to please their users by making preferences more apparent and easier to access. so, in effect this review has vilified the developer for following (admittedly stupid) guidelines

I downloaded Darts a while ago along with a few other games, and Darts is one of the few games I play regularly. Lex, try upping the difficulty. It makes the game more challenging, and therefore, fun.

I appreciate all the feedback. I did note the Preferences app settings, and perhaps should have acknowledged them in my review. I apologize for not having done so.
That said, I didn't find that adjusting to the "original" and supposedly harder flick method made much of a difference. Hitting a bullseye -- or, truly, anywhere on the board -- was a too-easily mastered task. It's like tee-ball -- I know I'm going to get a hit each time, which takes too much of the fun out.

I love this. I like that it is easy. When I am sitting in a Dr.s office I need something I can do that is fun AND easy. Also I like that I can listen to music while playing darts and still hear the sound effects from the darts app.
