Hi,
I posted this issue on the Apple support site and didn't get any useful feedback, I'm hoping maybe someone here can help.
I have a Time Capsule attached via ethernet cable to my wireless (Verizon FiOS) Actiontec router. I have the wireless capability of the TC disabled - I essentially use it just as "dumb" storage.
In my Finder window (Mac Pro, wirelessly connected to the router) the Time Capsule used to appear 100% reliably. Lately however, the Time Capsule will disappear from the list of locations in the Finder window. This seems to happen within 30 minutes of me power cycling the Time Capsule. So it disappears, power cycle it, reappears, then disappears again after 30+ minutes.
Other odd things:
- Even when the TC has disappeared, I can still successfully ping its address from a Terminal window (I can also log onto the router and see that the TC is still attached and has a valid IP).
- Sometimes, the TC reappears in my Finder Window, but not as a Time Capsule (it instead appears as a "remote server" or something like that. The icon appears as a CRT monitor rather than as a TC. Also, even when it appears in this mode, if I try to connect to it, connection will fail)
- This started happening randomly a few weeks ago - I hadn't updated OS (been on 10.5.6 since the day it came out), the router firmware, the TC firmware or anything else that I could see affecting this.
- Once the TC has disappeared, if I run the Airport Utility, that too will fail to find it. But if the TC appears in the Finder window after a power cycle, the Airport Utility will also find it
Does anyone have any ideas? Constantly having to power cycle the TC is a PITA.
Thanks,
Dave
