That sounds like a great solution - for air travel.
This feature would be even better, if there was a way to use major highways for road trips. Maybe they'll work with Google or MapQuest to add such a feature in an updated version.

I was surprised that apple didn't use google maps for this, especially since google maps is used in iPhoto

Wikipedia does this too. it is usually at the end of the page. For example, I type in a local town, Carthage, TN. At the end of the page was this line;
Carthage, Tennessee is at coordinates 36.25496°N 85.949211°W

This looks like a good fix. I can't wait for some one to make a widget that does this for you.

THanks I was wondering how to add cities that were not on the list!
You have solved my issue of living in a suburb of Austin, TX.
Thank you...

Thanks much. And your timing couldn't be better; I'm putting together an iMovie slide show/video based on our recent Alaska cruise, and I wanted to start it with the new map feature. However, some of our stops weren't on there.
Now they are!
Thanks again for your great tips.

I've written a little to take care of the editing for you, and it can get the coordinates from Google Earth if you don't want to type them yourself

This made it MUCH easier to add those out of the way places that we visit and in turn make home movies about !!!

Hi,
have the same issue with the map feature. I'm in Australia and not many places listed.
Tried the above solution but it will not allow me to save the new locations i added. "not authorized".
Tried to change this in the sharings and permissions but to no avail.
Anyone got a fix?
Carl

This is a great article, but I cannot save the amended WorldLocations.txt file. Only the system can write to it, and there is not even an option to change permissions so that everyone can write to it.
