dude,
that hdmi thingy you're speaking of, is mostly likely coming from your television set or if you have an hdmi switcher, not your appletv. I've had mine plugged into my sony stereo via hdmi and has worked flawlessly. The exception being the white screen being present after i downloaded a movie. I've always blamed that on Boxee, as it went away after i removed it from my atv..

I'll politely disagree on this one. When I had my Apple TV jacked in via HDMI to my Panasonic plasma, it constantly locked up. Once I switched to component video, the lock-ups stopped. (And yes, this was before I hacked the ATV for Boxee.)

Well I would not bet my farm, but I have had my Apple TV hooked via HDMI since day 1 and I have not had the lockups or freezes. So all I can say is that for all of those having problems, their is some of us how got lucky and are enjoying a single cable connection with out problems.

Given the number of Apple TV users I've spoken to who had problems disappear when they switched from HDMI to Component, I think you're putting your farm at risk unnecessarily. ;)

I noticed there is one other thing that seems to be new about this update
in TV shows ratings such as 14 or 18 (Common in Canada) now seem to show up they werent there prior unless using common rating such as R or PG-13
this applies to user created content... im unsure if this reflects itunes store bought purchases but i would assume it does

The "some people have it, some don't" nature of the lock-up with HDMI problem leads me to believe that it's some sort of communication problem between the display and the AppleTV. Exactly whose fault that is - Apple's or the display manufacturer - I can't say. What I can say is that I've certainly had fewer lock-ups after switching to component cables, and the interface is snappier overall.
It would be nice if the geeks who are into this sort of thing could hook up an AppleTV to some sort of meter to see if it's doing its end of the communication properly.

I would be interested in knowing more about what manufacturers' TVs (and other devices) people are getting HDMI lockups with. I've had absolutely no problems with my HDMI connection between the Apple TV and my Toshiba REGZA "42 HDTV. I use a $19.99 HDMI cable I bought at the Apple Store that was designed for Apple TV. Since I never use my component cables, I regret having purchased them for significantly more.
