I looked at the new graphics card on AppleStore and none of them seem to support the 1st generation Mac Pro upon Release :(
They only seem to support early 2008 and early 2009 Mac Pro.

Alright so what would I have to get to split that Dual link DVI port into two DVI ports for my two 24" displays?

I'm guessing a mini-DP to DVI adapter, maybe?

Phew, glad I made the cut for this card. I've been waiting to use Apple's 24" LED display. The only question now is, will the built-in iSight work with it if I plug it in via USB?

Ah ok, that's what I realized after I looked around a little more. Thanks.

I'm sure it would recognize the iSight immediately, and the speakers and microphone too I would assume.

If this becomes an option for the first-generation Mac Pro, I'll be on it.

That's only because Apple wants us to buy a newer computer. This is one of the scams that many big companys use to get returning customers.

It's on the UK store for £280. So I'm guessing that's going to translate to about .... $340 ?

Oh yeah, this is good news. I want a second display, but have been waiting for this option in my 2008 Mac Pro.

Well, that's kind of a giveaway then for 10.5.7. If the Mac Pros start shipping next week, then we can expect 10.5.7 to arrive any day now.

Don't.

Get Apple's Mini Displayport to DVI adapter instead.

Ah, I didn't get to the other replies first.

Really?

The new machines use Express 2, while the older models use Express 1. I suppose going to a bus that's newer, and twice as fast as the older one, is intended to sell more machines.

While, in theory, Express 2 cards can work in express 1 machines, very few do, and when they do, their performance is cut down.

It may not be worth it, even if it could work. Then you'd complain that Apple is limiting the performance.

Well the ATI HD3870 was only 30 per cent quicker (real world) than the original 512Mb ATI Radeon X1900 in the late 2007 MacPros.
The original ATI Radeon X1900 still runs two big 30" LCDs beautifully (as well as doing a great job of Crysis, Halo, Prey, COD4 and the other big shooters, not to mention real-world of Photoshop CS4, Final Cut Pro renders and the rest of the stuff that they were bought for). Will you really need an HD4870 in your 2008 machine? Depends on your circumstances but the X1900's are still the dog's bollocks for me.

From the article:

The card is a $200 build-to-order option for users buying a customized Mac Pro from the store, but that price is for the substitution of an Nvidia graphics card normally included with the system.

And adding a second Nvidia card adds $150 to the Mac Pro's price, so $200 + $150 = $350. Good call, Gee4orce.
