How about the very simple yet effective horizontal text messaging? That and picture SMS would rock.
Oh, and everyone always asks about bluetooth file sharing. Maybe?

Needed for iphone:
Document editing
MMS
Horizontal keyboard for SMS and email
Ability to rotate emails
Copy/cut/paste
A folder system for the home screen. There are too many apps available now to not have a better way of sorting/navigating them all!

I would like an indicator in the status bar to show when the phone is switched to silent mode. Currently, the only way to see if the phone is in silent mode is to look at the side switch.People often set the phone to silent mode and then forget about it. This results in missed phone calls and other audio notifications. Since people look at the screen more than they look at the side of the phone, there should be a silent mode indicator displayed in the status bar as long as the phone is in silent mode.

The ability to beam selected address book entries to another iPhone using Bluetooth.
An email command in the contacts to email selected entries in vcard format.
Syncing Notes and Tasks with Exchange accounts.
When enabling Activesync for contacts and calendars, the only option is to replace the information that is on the iPhone. Instead of being forced to replace all data on the phone, there should also be a Merge option.
Auto Brightness function should respond more quickly. Sometimes it takes several minutes for the brightness to change.

"Apple should not allow third parties to create native iPhone applications. Nobody needs third party iPhone applications. Web apps are really SWEET."

A. Yes

"Apple doesn't need enterprise users. In fact, since Apple itself is a corporation/enterprise, Apple should not even be using its own products. Apple employees should all be using Dells at work."

A. Yes

Forwarding of TXTs...

and all the above, said before.

Geez, my old Motorola Razr-V3X had more of these "basic" features 4 years ago, than my current iPhone 3G.

Get it right this time, Apple!

GOD! they've GOT to implement copy/paste.

I'd also like to see inserting of contact info into SMS messages, and landscape mode for Mail app.

himbo is so right... the device is sexy and awesome, but really... majority of these features are standard on simple phones.

Honestly, why is everyone so bent outta shape over copy and paste? Unified inbox and A2DP, I say. (The latter is less important since I gave up waiting and bought an adapter... would still rather not have to use it though.)

Horizontal email capability, video, copy/paste, a unified inbox, and the option of running audio to a bluetooth headset (I wouldn't use it for music, but podcasts and audiobooks would be a definite use).

How many of those do I think will be implemented? Maybe 1 out of 5.
