Apple silently discontinues iPhone Bluetooth Headset

I actually bought one of these 3 weeks ago, I'm already on my second one. Possibly going for number 3. For whatever reason, it works superbly for about a week and then suddenly every time you use it, it gets more and more static on both what I hear and who I'm talking to hears. Until the point it's just static.
It's quite sad that this thing couldn't be better. I like it because it's sleek, small profile, and light weight make it so that you don't feel it in your ear too much, aside from the fact that it is of course. Which is good for long drives.

ZeroGravX, I purchased the Plantronics Discovery 925 from Amazon.com for about $75 (almost half the normal retail price) and am VERY happy with it. It's a superb piece of gear and also pairs to my MacBook's Bluetooth. The combination storage case/recharger alone is worth the purchase. It is very comfortable in my ear for hours. I think it will meet every one of your criteria. Perhaps you can just return it to Apple and get a credit.

I bought one when it first came out. Love the sleekness and size. But 1) it comes with the Apple one-size-fits-none earpiece. I found that Griffin's clip-on earbud adapter was PERFECT for making it fit in my ear. And 2) it has no range. Your iPhone has to be within 3-5 feet. And the phone as to be in sight of the earpiece (earpiece in right ear, phone in left jeans pocket... not only will you get noise, it might even disconnect).
So, i just keep it close. But with those two qualifiers, I like it.
I wish Apple would learn from its mistakes and build a new version. Keep the sexiness, just make it work better ;-)

I got one of these when I got my original iPhone in 2007. I loved it for its size and integration and it worked fine, none of the performance problems noted above. Unfortunately, it didn't fit my ear very well and kept falling out. I lost it beneath the seat/console of my car for several weeks and then I lost it permanently on the street or in a store. A second one dropped out walking down a busy sidewalk and was accidentally stepped on by someone before I could retrieve it. I was waiting for someone to come up with an ear clip before buying another--didn't think of the Griffin iPod earbud adapter! Sorry to see it go.

I would have never bought the Apple bluetooth headset, but I received it as a gift. I did like the dock (which doesnt work with the 3g), but never the less, it was substandard.
The one feature I did like was the fact that the iPhone itself would show a battery meter on the phone for how much juice was left in the Bluetooth headset itself, a very cool feature. That was the only thing I liked, I wish there was a third party bluetooth headset that would show battery strength on the phone, but I am sure there isn't, and the way Apple is locking iPhone 3.0 to their licensing terms for dock connector, I am sure we wont see it.
I am going to be VERY pissed if the 3.0 update makes my dock connector in my car quit working with my iPhone. I can only hope if it does Apple allows the phone to be downgraded back to 2.2.1.
I have onstar, and to use the built in phone I have to use Verizon.. no f'in way... my option was to buy the Belkin iPod doc for the car, plug the iPhone in, ignore the warning of "not designed for iPhone" and use it, and it works perfect. If 3.0 takes that away I will get really mad and do absolutely nothing because I love the iPhone... man it sux.

Yeah, when I take this one back into the store and let them hear it and explain to them that this is already my second one, hopefully they will let me return it. Or, in best case scenario I get one that stays working! Because I love the battery indicator shown on the iPhone as well as the charger that charges it and the iPhone at the same time. As well as the aforementioned pluses.

I don't think bluetooth multitasks. When I am using BluePhoneElite, nothing else can use my Motorola mobile. Now that Apple will be using bluetooth in 3.0 for other things, they probably will not want people to use it for headsets.
I don't think that's the case. My Sony Ericsson has a setting for BlueTooth "power saving," and the help for that says something to the effect of "with power saving on, only one BlueTooth connection is supported at a time." That tells me that BlueTooth usually supports more than one connection at a time. Unless Ericsson's translators are horrible, which is also possible.
