This is the only problem I've ever had with my MBP, and now I have a stack of burned archives I can no longer access via the drive.

However, Apple's move to an Nvidia chipset seemed poorly judged (perhaps financially motivated) as Nvidia chipset motherboards in the PC arena are well known for running significantly hotter than an equivalent performance Intel chipset. Just what you don't want in a laptop! Such issues are meekly evaluated in UK Macworld no doubt due to Apple's whip hand and its ability to veto journalists who don't toe the line. US Macworld seems less cowed.

My son did this with his new MacBook - closing the lid immediately after selecting Shutdown, without waiting for the script to complete. He lost all sound output.
Now - after reformatting an old PC USB drive, backing up his hard drive, doing an Archive-and-Install, then downloading all the updates since his system DVD - he has learnt his lesson.
But surely Apple should have made the shutdown script uninterruptable, even by lid closure?
Is there a Terminal hack to achieve this?
