Hello,
I am using a Mac Book Pro and a Canon HV20, importing into imovie HD 6.
The video imports, but the computer has no sound as I am importing (which makes it hard to decide when to end a clip). However, I do have audio when I play back from my Mac Book Pro.
Also, sometimes when I go back to video to do more work, iMovie tells me the camera is incompatible.

I did go to my local Apple Store. The video guy there thought perhaps iMovie HD was too old. We tried a new version of iMovie, which didn't recognize the camera at all.

I have been to www.hv20.com, a forum for canon hv 20, 30 , and 40 cameras. I've checked the settings on my camera, and they seem to be correct.

I am using imovie 6.03 HD.
The date and time camera settings are correct.
I record in SP, audio is set at 16 bit. AV-DV is off.
Playback settings are set at Auto, and audio out is set at stereo 1.
Comp Out: 1080i/480i
DV Output: HDV/DV

Any help is very much appreciated! Thank you!

Do you, by chance, have the import sound level turned down? iMovie has a seperate controller for the import sound than for that main "playback" (i.e. AFTER you have imported and are now editting). I believe (if I remember correctly...might have to hook up my MacBook Pro to my video capture device to refresh my memory) that there should be sound level slider just below the import video screen. I have mine turned down as I usually have the sound on the VCR/video device turned up and it is annoying the hear the sound "twice"/"in stereo".

Hi,
Thank you for your suggestion. I checked the audio levels on my computer, and in iMovie. The audio is on (sliders are moved up, and the boxes are checked). I do have sound on playback, but not when capturing.
With my other Canon (an old ZR45), I have sound on the Mac when I capture (and had to turn the camera sound off to avoid the dual sound situation). But still, I have no computer audio when I capture from the HV20.
