Re shared library...
I think a lot of the limits to shared libraries has to do with reducing bandwidth (especially not showing CoverFlow). I agree that it would be nice to use a shared library in iTunes DJ, but I don't understand your other problem...
Spinning songs with iTunes DJ

Reducing bandwidth? The picture is maybe 1/10 the size of the audio data, plus I got Gigabit Ethernet to every machine. How much of that is it gonna use? And it wouldn't explain why sorting is so broke. For some reason they have made it act brain dead when dealing with Shared Libraries.

I don't really care what somebodies pre concieved issues of bandwidth or other such issues with shared libraries, don't gimp the software when you have no idea on my network setup, let me decide if it is too much!
Hell, iTunes happily goes off to the internet to download a bunch of labels and stuff for a CD without even asking, that annoys me almost as much as not being able to have the DJ play from a shared library. Sometimes I just want the CD on random play, I'm not looking at the titles!

Great info.
I'm left wondering if this is an application that could work in a real DJ environment such as a club or weekend party where a DJ is queuing songs. What I'm looking for is a way to accept requests from the guests and allow them to include a short message to dedicate or explain why they are requesting the song. Guests can see the request queue from a a personal device such as smart phone or iPad/iTouch to know when their request will play.
Do you think this is beyond the current scope of iTunes DJ?

One Question: If I point iTunes DJ at a playlist as opposed to the entire library, can guests access the library (I don't want this) or are they restricted to voting only for tracks in the playlist (I want this)?
