I remember a game where you traversed the galaxy buying and trading with planets and other space farers. I always wanted to see that one again.

Something like Escape Velocity?
(Escape Velocity Nova, latest entry in he EV series, works on OSX; http://www.ambrosiasw.com/games/evn/ )

I tried to follow the link and the page doesn't load correctly. All images are broken and the games show up mostly outside the browser window. Tried Safari 4 and Firefox 3 browsers, tried with firewall off, popups on, various browser prefs. Can't get it to work. Yet the site works for other folks. None of the contact or support links work on the site either; just loops back to the main page. Other sites work fine. Also tried the downloadable emulator for Apple][. No joy:( I wonder what's wrong with my system!

Every time I get nostalgic and try to replay 15 or 20 year old games, I wind up hugely disappointed at how lame most of the games are (Archon excepted...). Now I'm no fan of the "latest and greatest" games, either. In fact, I'm mostly into old-school jump 'n' run, puzzle, and adventure games, and some newer action-adventure (like "Beyond Good and Evil", "Project Eden", or "Rayman 3"). But most of these old ancestors just don't do it for me when I play them now :/

Whatever happened to Little Brick Out on the very early Apples (pre-hard drive, pre-mouse)? My kids loved it. And the bouncing tennis ball with the changeable sound and angle?

Oh man, I'm at work right now, but I just checked quickly, and both Wings of Fury and Captain Goodnight seem to be working.
Wings of Fury wouldn't let you save, and I don't think there was an end to it, it would just throw more islands and ships at you, even if you long made captain.
I spent entirely too much time with that game, but I'll have to check if I still got it...;)

If you liked Shadowgate, check out the free online game Malstrum's Mansion. It looks just like an old Mac game!

"Pre-hard drive, pre-mouse"? Heck, that game was pre-3.5" disks!

As someone who had an Apple ][ back in '79, this was a great trip for me, too. I most appreciate your listing The Bilestoad. It was one of my favorites: from having flowers appear after big pools of blood soaked into the ground, and lining up a drone and cutting off its head. Archon was a blast but I liked Archon II a bit more. I like Ultima ][ more than Ultima because it was the first game where I hacked the save to max out my stats. Missing from the list is Autoduel. That was the only time I would ever drive a truck - with dual recoilless-rifles up front and a flame thrower in back.

Yeah, it's kinda like how huge your house used to seem when you were a kid, and then you go back and find it was actually pretty cramped.

I was able to track down an online version of Shadowgate!!! At first it was like, "Oh man, this is wimpier than I remembered." But after playing it a bit, it was actually quite challenging. The interface was difficult to remaster -- no point and click of the mouse. But soon I was back in the swing of things, having a grand ol' time. Check it out at:

Oh, woooow, this looks incredibly cool! I've never seen it before, but it really, really captures the old Mac SE gaming experience. Wow! I can't wait to give it a whirl. Thanks!

That's one thing that disappointed me about the online version of Shadowgate that I found -- it was colorized. Somehow, it detracted from the nostalgic experience and cheesified the graphics for me. There's just something about those old black and white bitmapped graphics.

I'm worried about the legality of this.

Isn't the copyright on games 75 years?

As an ole Apple IIe owner I remember playing a game entitled 'Sun-Dog" while my wife was engrossed with a game called 'Drelbs" Do any of you guys remember either of these please?
I would really like to get hold of Drelbs again but cannot for the life of find out where. Thank you.
