My MacBook has a webcam that I have never used However, it sometimes lights. I do have a Firewall enabled and security wep on my router and I allow only essential services. Is this cam being somehow hacked? Is it really activated? I am able to usually turn it off by restarting the macBook. I have read various comments when I googled the issue but I still wonder why this occurs since the webcam has never been used. Can it be activated by others on the internet? I have had the macbook about a year and it has happened only about 3 times. I appreciate any comments regarding this issue. Thanks!

Your iSight will be turned on if you open photobooth, or any other app/web app which uses the iSight camera. I very much doubt that you are being hacked. Next time this happens, check which apps you have open and what you are doing.

Some anti-theft software periodically takes pictures. If you don't use that, you might want to download a trial version of Macscan to look for spying.

I was on the internet checking my eMail.... by being on the internet with the green light on.... does it mean my face is plastered somewhere on the internet without me being aware? I have never used photo booth or any other app that requires webcam.... no chat rooms ever..... Can my mac still be hacked with a firewall and router encryption requiring a password?
I do not share this mac with anyone else... I am the sole user.... that's why I am curious... Could it be a malfunction of this macbook? Thanks, joeysong
