"I really wish camera manufacturers would standardize the shoe."
- Actually, they just recently DE-standardized it. All camcorders used to have the same flash shoes that still cameras used. Then I guess they decided they wanted to be greedy and charge $130 for a light.

I have had my eye on this camcorder for months now. I heard that Canon announced new models at one of the shows towards the beginning of the year. I haven't seen any reviews or anything, but I am reluctant to buy this one with new models on the way. Anyone heard any information on the new models?

Just got a Canon HF10. Really like it. Costco had the HF10 for $549. I couldn't pass it up :)
Does FCP Express support 24p mode?

According to Canon's website, the HG21 does NOT have true 24P. Like the HV20 and HV30, this 24P is in a 60i wrapper. So far, only the HV40 has true 24P.
FCE and iMovie do not support true 24P, but do support 24P/60i.

Umm, what do you mean by iMovie does not support 24p? Canon does not do a real 24P anyways, so iMovie supports that mode. Once the clips are imported you'll see that it takes up less space than 30P clips by almost exactly the ratio of 24/30. That is a very misleading statement. This stuff is confusing enough, don't add to it unnecessarily.

iMovie (and FCE) supports 24P/60i - it does not support native 24P.

This HG21 is 24P/60i and is compatible with iMovie and FCE.

The HV40 is Canon's only consumer camcorder that has native 24P.

I bought this camera and have not been able to import the files into FCP. I'm using a G5 Dual PowerPC processor on FCP 6.0.6. FCP is not detecting the camera though I can see it mounted on my desktop. Any advice? Do i just need to change my A/V settings?

You can't do it. AVCHD camcorders can only 'log & transfer' not 'log & capture'. And unfortunately, you need an Intel Mac to use 'log & transfer'.
