After Sales Service is the key to the success in the gadgets world. I am a gadget freak and have used almost all models of Nokia for years in India and upgraded every time a new phone came. I switched to Blackberry Bold couple of months ago. A fine machine to look at and ease of use. However, for two months I have struggled with the enterprise activation. Wiped the machine several times and complained to the service provider, seller but to no avail.
I bought two apple touchpads and excellent service and east of use. My daughter says, I should have consulted her before gifting apple touchpad as she says iphone is the best in performance and after sales service.
I feel like changing gears from innovator to a laggard now.
I agree with the writer for a different reason in India.

The article asks "But why did iPhone sales fall 10 percent?".
Who knows if the sales actually fell. The report wasn't based on actual sales data.
If you read the NPD press release, they say their methodology to determine these numbers was to survey 150,000 consumers. They also say that they do not included business/corporate activations, which would likely skew true numbers more towards BlackBerrys anyways.

I don't choose phones simply to be with the in crowd of some popularity contest. Features and price are my two big keys.
That said, I had a Palm Treo 700p (Sprint) that was for all intents a solid phone. However, Palm's neglect of the ACCESS OS and its refusal to update its own sync software for the Intel family of Macs just didn't sit well with me. The Pre would have had my business if my current contract didn't just run out. What's more, I remember reading someplace (was it here?) about a legal threat from Apple against Palm. And also, few phones in Sprint's line-up were Mac-friendly.
I had actually considered switching to AT&T for the iPhone, but in exchange for compatibility, I'd probably have paid more for service and gotten less utility from the phone.
I settled on the Nextel side of Sprint and got a Curve 8350i.

May very well be, but I gotta tell ya, the calls are coming through much better today than two weeks ago. And it's much easier to type than it was on the Treo. :-)

Talk about an extremely misleading article title.

The title compares a company/overall smartphone brand to essentially a single model, but the article is really talking about how the BlackBerry Curve will not maintain the sales lead over the iPhone.

The reality is that BlackBerrys must be totally killing the iPhone in sales. After all, the article states that the Curve is #1, the iPhone #2, and the Pearl & Storm #3 and #4. Thus, just looking at the top 4...three are BlackBerrys and one is the iPhone. Thus, with that along, BlackBerry phones appear to out selling iPhones by about 3 to 1. If so, that is a lead that Apple will be hard pressed to change anytime soon.

Now, I will agree that the iPhone will likely over take the BlackBerry Curve in fairly short order...but then the title was NOT "Why the BlackBerry Curve's lead over the iPhone won't last".
