Hi all

I'm going to America next month and are going to rent a car, i use to rent a gps to but are there
any good apps that can do the job nicely as well?

The iPhone does not yet support GPS, to my knowledge, UNLESS you jailbreak it.

The iPhone 3G does support GPS, but Apple has not yet allowed any vendors to create turn-by-turn spoken driving directions for the iPhone. The should change when iPhone 3.0 OS comes out this summer, and I would expect to see apps soon after.

OK...poor wording on my part...should have said that you cannot do "turn-by-turn" GPS on the iPhone yet unless you jailbreak it since iPhone 3.0 is not yet out.

XRoad actually offers turn-by-turn directions on the iPhone now, but it can't speak the turns due to Apple's current restrictions.
