"Because of AT&T’s strict no-Slingbox policy, the app will only work over Wi-Fi networks."
The problem with this statement is that AT&T allows the slingplayer on other phones on their network. It is only the iPhone that is cut off.

So if the video comes from a google server (via YouTube) over 3g - that's ok. But if it comes from a server in my home, that's not? Would love for someone at AT&T to try and explain the difference.
Honestly, if the quality wasn't that great on 3G I probably would have used WiFi anyway - so it's not that big a deal. But having a $30 price tag and no 3G makes it tough to swallow. I think $14.99 would have been more my comfort threshold given the lack of 3G support.

I paid up to use SlingPlayer on my Treo with Sprint. I am not paying the same amount of money for an app that is strictly limited to Wi-Fi. Good luck.
Besides that, Slingbox has lost its shine for me. My first Slingbox-HD died about two weeks out of warranty and shelling out another $300 is a tough pill to swallow, especially when the previous box lasted barely more than a year. Add in the networking hassles (absurd that they couldn't incorporate native wireless functionality in any of their units) and I'm done with them.

If they could only make programming the SlingBox over 3G or Edge so you could do last minute records.and that app should and could be free...oh well.

I was considering buying the SlingBox Pro HD but this announcement has swayed me from the purchase due to the 3G restriction for iPhone 3G users. It can barely be considered mobile TV when you are forced to be in a WIFI zone to access the TV channels. Also I dislike that SlingMedia expects their customers to fork over another $29.99 CAD to get SlingPlayer Mobile for the iPhone 3G after already spending $379.99 CAD for the SlingBox. To entice more customers to buy their products SlingMedia shouldn’t be charging for SlingPlayer Mobile and they should be fare in allowing all SlingPlayer Mobile apps to access 3G, not just Windows Mobile, Blackberry OS, Palm OS and Symbian OS.

Can someone confirm if this supports the AV out? I want to be able to use my MyVu video headset to watch my programing using the SlingPlayer on my iPod touch. It appears that not all video program automatically support the external video. I want to buy it, but would be very disappointed if the MyVu video headset option is not supported.

@jayt: I am traveling on some family business right now so I don't have access to my AV cable. I'll try to check this out when I return home.

Slingbox doesn't record. Perhaps you're confusing it with Tivo or some other DVR? I've used SlingPlayer for the Mac to control my Tivo, but now you can program your Tivo via www.tivo.com. It's not instantaneous, but it works in a pinch.

I agree on the pricing issue; $30 for WiFi-only viewing is too much for me. I guess if you spend a lot of time in coffee shops or other places that offer free WiFi, it could still be worth it.
