iMovie won't recognize my Sony HVR-Z1 camcorder?

I own a new aluminium imac running mac os 10.5.6. I am trying to import video from my Sony HVR-Z1 camcorder using the firewire ilink cable but I get nothing coming up. Where am I going wrong?

Which version of iMovie are you using?

1. Make Sure Camera is on
2. I would open iMovie first THEN plug your camera into your mac...
