I really like my Apple TV. What would make it better?
1. 1080p capability
2. Larger HDD
3. Faster wireless syncing
4. Faster processor (remote responds to slowly)
5 PVR function
6. Lower iTunes pricing for rentals
7. Rental release dates that correspond to the video store dates.
For all of the complaining in this article about how Apple TV pushes the iTunes store and tries to promote purchases, I don;t see a problem with it.
Apple is in the business to make money. If the iTunes store is successful, it will spawn better and better products including an improved AppleTV. Apple has treated ATV as a hobby until now. Why? They are trying to figure out how to make money with it. Once they do, we'll see an improvement to the product line.
What's wrong with Apple TV

My solution is a nice fast Windows home theater PC with plenty of storage (2TB or more) an internal Blu-ray, Cyberlink PowerDVD, Snapstream BeyondTV with a DVICO PCI high def digital TV tuner connected to an over the air antenna offers the most functionality. You also get the Silverlight/Neftlix streaming, Hulu, etc. Of course with iTunes for Windows I have access to my entire Mac-based iTunes Library on my Mac Pro. I'm not a big fan of Elgato's TV tuner solutions and software and really prefer the Windows-based BeyondTV DVR solution.
I'm a huge Mac enthusiast and make my living supporting Apple customers. I would never use Windows as my primary desktop or laptop operating environment for computing but Apple just doesn't offer enough with the deliberately crippled AppleTV with which I've been hugely disappointed.
I look forward to seeing a new 3.0 version of this product that isn't just an iTunes accessory but a full media server solution that integrates not just with one Mac on my network but with any Windows or Mac computer that contains content that I'd like to stream--anywhere.

The problem is poor rental content and delayed releases.
Totally agree with this. I hate the "you can buy it now, but you won't be able to rent it until XX/XX" game they play. That just means, I won't be watching it until XX/XX, so their claim to have movies available at the same time as the video store doesn't hold water.
Also, you can't re-sell a video you buy digitally, which substantially reduces its value, IMO. I've never bought a movie through iTunes, and probably never will. If I want to own it, I want the disc.
Props for the user id BTW.

I just got this email from apple:
Thank him in HD.
Apple TV transforms any HDTV into Entertainment Central for Dad. With Apple TV, he can rent HD movies and buy HD TV shows—all from the comfort of his favorite recliner. He can also watch YouTube videos and podcasts, display digital photos in high definition, and listen to iTunes music through his home theater system. Shop Apple TV
I thought it was humorous, because it subtly reinforces your point that selling media is the primary purpose of the ATV. I've always agreed and felt a bit annoyed that I have to scroll down to get to my media. It would be nice if they at least gave us and option to reorder. For example the iphone sticks the itunes store and app store on the home screen above the ipod when you first turn it on, but if you wish you can hide them on screen ten at the back of all you other apps.

No "AVCHD" support All modern video cameras including the ones that Apple are promoting together with iMovie App. uses "AVCHD".
Only streaming media, no Blu-Ray slot. Streaming will never catch up with Blu-Ray. Streaming is expensive compared to rental in "BlockBuster" were I can rent Blu-rays very cheap.
What about Dolby AC3 and DTS??? I don't think so, although I have not this very day checked.
People will never get so lacy that they won't do the ritual of carrying a Blu-ray tto the player and stick it in! If they do, they won't last very long.
Streaming and harddrive content vanishes in the wind. The physical precens of a media makes You an "owner" 10 years after You still got the DVD. "All my videoes have vanished like tears in the rain!" Those on harddrives that is.
Streaming and harddrive media sucks! And they could make everything if they just would! I just ordered a cheap stereo equipment. It plays CD and tape and radio. It records the tapes on SD and memorycard and the CD's and the radio broadcast aswell! And oh! It converts them to mp3 on the fly!
Make a device like that for video!
