On my desktop I have several folders for each account. I know of no way to do this on Mail on the iPhone.

Sure, I do it on the desktop version of mail and sync everything with iMap. I leave my old PowerBook G4 12" running and it handles my mail rules for me. Mail on my iPhone is delivered sorted and categorized exactly like I want - for multiple accounts.

I'm really looking to the version 3 OS's support of 3 part hardware via the dock connector. I want a foldable (not bluetooth!) keyboard much like I had with my Palm, where the iPhone would slide into a cradle that would hold it at the proper angle. I had one with my old Palm Pilot and loved it. I used it all the time to take notes in meetings or on the go without having to lug around a full blown laptop.

I really enjoyed the thorough article. Most articles are so short, they really leave out the pertinent details.
I was surprised to learn that you can not click on a meeting invitation in Mail and have it show up on the calendar. That seems very short-sighted. Any ideas if this is remedied in 3.0?

There's no question the iPhone is a useful tool, but it's not a serious substitute for a laptop. The author claims to have mastered the iPhone's keyboard. I suggest it's the other way around. The keyboard is the iPhone's UI weakest link. A user must relearn typing. Even the layout is not correct, the period and comma positions are the reverse of every standard keyboard. The autocorrect feature is Apple's admission that the keyboard is difficult use.
The iPhone may be easier to use than other similar products, but it's still idiosyncratic, requiring more focus to use than a laptop (or pad and a pencil). If you're using an iPhone in a meeting, you're not concentrating on the meeting. And just try to share a chart or image with others on an iPhone.
As for laptops being "awkward to carry to meetings," please! If you find carrying a 4.5 pound MacBook to a business meeting physically challenging, you have some serious medical problems.

I hate people who make this argument - why do you always assume that the only thing you are carrying is just your laptop. Who walks around only carrying a laptop and that is all? Anyone? A few kg on its own might not be very challenging, but when you throw in the weight of everything else you need to take with you on a trip, then it becomes several kg and very heavy. The more weight you can shed the better and if that means using an iPhone instead of a laptop, then an iPhone it is.

kill953,

Hate is a very strong word to use in this context. Winston Churchill said, "Courage is what it takes to stand up and speak, Courage is also what it takes to sit down and listen." Please listen.

First, you don't hate the argument; you hate people who disagree with your point of view. And, by your own admission, there are many who feel as I do. Good judgment comes from experience.

Second, please don't assume that I assume that one carries only a laptop to meetings. There are those of us who have traveled around the world with hefty laptops and whatever else needed for the trip. Indeed, some of us have traveled to business meetings before there were personal computers.

Last, I agree with your point about shedding the most weight possible. If you can be effective in a business meeting or giving a presentation with an iPhone, more power to you. However, using an iPhone for an effective business presentation where a laptop is required is doomed. Use the most effective tool for the job at hand.

Some things I notice that are not available for Google Maps; saving a map to view later and emailing a map.

It would be nice to whip out my computer, I mean iPhone, create a map, save it to use later and email to someone else so that they have an idea where to go.

A less-than-elegant means of achieving this now is to take a screen grab (press the Home and power buttons at the same time) of your Google map, then e-mail the image created from your "Camera" image collection.

No, I do hate it when people patronise others and call them "medically deficient" when they raise the perfectly valid point that not everyone likes or enjoys lugging around a several kilo laptop, especially as it is never the only thing that they carry.

The rest of your argument is fine - right tool for the job and all that - but it doesn't excuse the thinly-veiled insults.
