Anyone else concerned about the medical information push feature? Probably cuz I don't have an iPhone and don't really understand how it works, but how long will this personal patient info stay on the phone?

Considering the features that AT&T doesn't support, I am inclined to stay with my 3G rather than update, so I can go with another provider with my current phone and not lock in to two years from purchase.

Wow, it really sounds to me like AT&T is in BIG TIME trouble with Apple. And I think that's a good thing for us.

Well, I'll be upgrading my 2G to a 3GS ASAP. Looks amazing. AT&T is disappointing though. I've actually never had a problem with coverage or dropped calls and usually defend them when the critics are out in force, but they couldn't get their act together for MMS by mid-June? And no tethering? Come on guys.

With TomTom in the works, does that mean we might finally get a Touch with GPS? I see no reason to give up my Palm TX and external GPS until the Touch supports GPS in slick manner.

I have to admit the iPhone 3G S (<-silly name) is making me drool all over again. The new features it supports look awesome. I've been holding out on an iPhone because I'm hesitant to go to AT&T, but this new model may push me over the edge.
In that respect I'm glad AT&T is dragging their feet. Its looking like they're increasingly becoming a thorn in Apple's grand plan for the iPhone platform. Maybe it'll prod Apple to look at alternative carriers, contract be damned.
The only thing is, who will they open it to? If I'm not mistaken, T-Mobile is really the only other GSM provider in the US, right?

Yes, tmobile is the only other GSM. But tons of phones have both GSM and CMDA versions, so it's just a question of whether apple thinks it's worth it to do that.

and just how could the iPod Touch support GPS? Do you have WiFi in your car? Triangulation using mobile phone masts is very hit and miss. GPS needs a good stable and strong signal to transmit or receive co-ordinates and that can only be provided by your carrier and a contract.

Funny how America is so far behind in cellphone technology.
I've been able to tether my phones pre-iPhone for years and NOT get charged for doing so.
You guys need Vodafone to come into your country then you'll see what a real 3G network can do.

You're just making this up as you go along, aren't you? A GPS doesn't need WIFI, a contract, a cell tower or a carrier; nor does it need to transmit anything.

@mosley

Apple could add a GPS chip and antenna. GPS has nothing to do with your carrier and contract or WiFi.

You seem to have some fundamental misunderstandings about how GPS works. None of my handheld GPS units have a carrier or contract, the service is provided for free (your tax dollars at work).
