iPhone 3G S and the 'Uh Oh' moment

Boy how true. Just today I was looking at the review for the Flip HD device. I was contemplating getting one in the near future. With the iPhone 3G S announcement, I need to rethink that. Now, I know the this new iPhone doesn't do HD video capture, but how long before it does? Maybe the next rev or at the very least the one after that? At that point, a Flip vidcam would be a one trick pony in comparison.
There's still a place for dedicated devices, but the low end gadget market is ripe for being 'iPhoned" over the coming years.

I was very impressed with everything, however, we were promised to have "Notes" sync with our computers. It wasn't mentioned, anyone know if that feature made it to 3.0? Maybe the other features were supposed to make us forget about this feature.
It's okay, I still like everything else.

I totally agree, I've held off on a GPS unit knowing that a turn-by-turn system was coming to the iPhone. Its a no-brainer that the GPS hardware manufacturers are going to notice a decrease in sales, they now have to turn to the iPhone and its App Store to make up for lost unit sales in the form of application sales.

It's called Ergonomics, folks. Just because you CAN do a bunch of things with an iPhone, doesn't mean you'll WANT to.
The Flip camcorders have 2 things going for them - Speed, and form. They feel like a camcorder. The iPhone doesn't. The iPhone doesn't feel like any kind of camera I've used. A general-purpose button would be nice - record on/off/pause.
I like my (1G) iPhone, and the speed upgrade is enough to tempt me to get a 3G(s), but it certainly doesn't out iPod even the iPod (Classic) when it comes to just listening to music...

Personally I was a little underwhelmed with the new phone. The iPhone OS 3.0 is great- but the phone really isn't nearly as compelling as I thought it would be. OK, so it has more memory (at a price) and is faster if you're somewhere that can take advantage of that, but that's really about it.
The camera is now 3mp- up a whole megapixel, but still no flash. VGA video- not exactly a major feature compared to other manufacturers. A compass- fun but not exactly marquee feature. I'm certainly in no rush to upgrade my iPhone 3G, which I love, by the way.
Don't get me wrong, I think the iPhone 3GS is fun but it feels more like iPhone 3.5G (as opposed to a real re-boot which would I guess actually make it a 3.0 model) rather than anything else. Let's wait a year for something really worth being tied into for.

Not only do most boy scouts not have the scratch necessary to buy and cover the monthly fees, neither do most Mac users. Most of us neither have the need, nor are willing to invest the initial/monthly fees to join the iPhone group.
Personally, I despise the volume of articles MacWorld posts regarding iPhones. If the volume of articles on the iPhone were proportionate to the number of Mac users actually using them, we would see a fraction of the articles compared to the volume we non-users currently have to skip over.

This might be true for some products. But just think... just about every gadget will tell you the time, but we still buy watches. I am sure there is a way for all of the gadgets to get along.
I love the iPhone, but I got a iPod Touch because I like to have my phone... be just a phone, and I also knew the 3rd version of the phone was going to fill in all the obvious holes the first version had... really no GPS on the first phone, when every phone already had GPS?
I might get one sometime, but I can still think of a few features I'm willing to wait for.
