I guess our stories are like what we heard: "when I was your age I had to walk 2 miles to school"
Maybe they will tell their kids," I remember when connecting to the internet made a funny annoying sound. "
Yea it's tough to decide between plished metal and brushed metal - I'll be up all night on that ! lol

That's great. I entertained the notion of something similar that I finally implement with the 4.0 release. On my 15" MBP, I:
- Moved the 12 sites living in my Bookmarks Bar to Top Sites, and pinned them
- Set New tabs open with: Top Sites
- Hid the Bookmarks Bar
It added vertical space, and works much more intuitively than expected. I'm really happy.
Finally, I like the new Mail button - or has it always been there?
Regardless of what I ultimately decide works for me, Apple's provided me plenty of possibilities.

Also, I'm currently experimenting with the buttons that I moved from the Bookmarks Bar to the toolbar
- Because I can open Top Sites in a new tab, I removed that button altogether.
- As you pointed out, Top Sites easily absorbs Home because it's like 12 Homes in my case, so I removed that button too.
- Opening Bookmarks in a new window seems like the beginning of a pretty logical workflow, so I killed that one off.
- Even though History is only one click past Bookmarks, I kept that button to save a click.
- Also, I like the new Mail button - or has it always been there?
My only orphans are three bookmarklets that lived in the Bookmarks Bar. Anyway, regardless of what I ultimately decide works for me, Apple's provided me plenty of possibilities.

I do appreciate all the new toolbar buttons (new tab, downloads, history, etc). But what is annoying me to no end is that there's no way to force a single window mode. I use quicksilver to pull up bookmarks and do web searches and without single window mode it opens up a new window rather than a tab....
But that was another plist tweak that is gone. I'm fine with apple putting out simple UIs for the masses but leave us more robust plists please. Some people care about the little things...
Give the hackers a chance. Some of those tweaks will be uncovered in time. And third party utilities need some time to catch up, too.
You can still get single window mode - without a tweak. Check the General preferences at the bottom of the window. You will find "Open links from applications" options: "in a new window" and "in a new tab in the current window." You want the later.

You've always been able to toggle that in the General preferences; now, though, there are even more choices. "New windows open with" and "New tabs open with." In the windows pull down menu there are seven options; in the tabs pull down menu there are five. I won't list them here - you'll just have to look for yourself. Suffice it to say that Safari's preferences are improving, though as some have noted, there are still some important items missing.

How do you move, or place, specific sites in the Top Sites window? The only way I could find to do it is to visit a site repeatedly until it shows up in Top Sites and then pin it.

It is also not new. It has been part of WebKit since 2006. It has been available in previous versions of Safari by enabling the Developer Menu in Safari's advanced preferences.

In Top Sites, click the Edit button in the lower left, then drag the URL into the window. When you are in Edit mode, you can also pin and rearrange sites, as well as specify how many you want to see in the view.

That's not new. I was doing it in Safari 3, if not before.

I'm happy to have the tabs down below the address bar again, even though it looks strange again after using the Beta for a few weeks. I like the way they changed the loading bar indicator, and the additional choices in customizing the toolbar. The only thing I miss is the Snapback arrow that resided in the address bar. I used that much, much more than the search Snapback arrow. Also, I had a keyboard shortcut for Reopen All Windows From Last Session which I can't get to work now. Other than that, I'm happy.
It also seems even snappier and smoother than the Beta version.

On the Top Sites page, click the Edit button. Then do any of the following:
- Open the webpage in a second Safari window, highlight the page?s address in the address field, and drag the address to the Top Sites page.
- Drag a link from an email message, text document, webpage, or other source to the Top Sites page.
- Type the address in a document, highlight it, and drag it to the Top Sites page.
When you are finished adding pages, click Done.
