Correction. You say that ordering from the AT&T web site gives you the opportunity to stand in line on the 19th and get priority treatment. You state that ordering from Apple online gets the phone shipped to your door.
I ordered my phone on the AT&T web site and it's being overnighted to me free. Supposed to arrive on the 19th. Maybe it's because I'm an existing customer whose upgrading his original iPhone?

Same here. I'm an existing AT&T customer and was able to place my order via wireless.att.com and (supposedly) have it shipped to me for the 19th. I tried going through buyiphone.apple.com first, but they're only able to process single-line activations, so if anyone on a Family Plan is looking to upgrade to multiple iPhones, the AT&T site is the place to go.

I keep seeing articles about how existing 'Early iPhone 3G' customers are going to have to pay full price to get an iPhone 3G S.
If a customer (at least in the US) has had a iPhone 3G for a year - doesn't that mean they could Terminate their contract for $115 - ($175 - 12 months @ $5) and then get the new phone for $199/$299 depending on the model?
That's a big difference. What am I missing?
Personally, I stuck with the 1st Gen so don't care - but it just seems odd this is never mentioned.

The cost of the new iPhone is $399 and $599. I wish sites would quit listing the false lower prices - those are prices many (most?) current loyal AT&T customers do not qualify for.
While MacWorld does list the correct prices, the lower prices should be relegated as a side-note with conditions.

Correction on my pricing comment: Man, the pricing gets convoluted....
"For non-qualified customers, including existing AT&T customers who want to upgrade from another phone or replace an iPhone 3G, the price with a new two-year agreement is $499 (8GB), $599 (16GB), or $699 (32GB)."

I'm looking at 2 places for the $499 price for the 32GB 3gs
-http://www.wireless.att.com/iphone/ under the "get iready" pdf
-my own receipt from pre-purchasing it at at ATT company owned store
I double checked both before posting. Maybe there are different prices in different markets?

The list prices:
$499 (8GB), $599 (16GB), or $699 (32GB)
The early upgrade prices are:
$399 (16GB), or $499 (32GB)
I don't know what the 8 GB early upgrade price is.

The Apple Retail Store "Reservation" is not really a reservation. There is the footnote that states ... "Pre-authorization does not guarantee iPhone availability at an Apple Retail Store. iPhone is sold on a first-come, first-served basis."
Reminds me of the Seinfeld episode about the rental car reservation. The second half of the reservation is holding the phone for pickup, which is the most important part of the reservation, actually "reserving" something.

Ken, you are right. The 32g 3GS is $499, if you are an existing customer not eligible for an upgrade. My wife and I got 3G's last year in July the day they became available. We have a family plan and her phone is listed as primary. She is eligible for the lower price, $299 on July 10th. My phone was not eligible until march 2010. She will wait the 3 weeks and save $200. I pre-ordered at an ATT store for $499 plus tax and $18 fee and got a black 32g phone. I elected to have mine shipped to the ATT store and the manager promised if mine has not arrived he will give me one from inventory. I am to call him the day before.
