I have an iMac and also a PC (hey it was given to me from my employer...for free)...anyways I had AOL as my ISP, but switched to MSN for internet service. I've tried to set up my iMac to sign into MSN,
which according to Microsoft is possible. But i have had no luck in this matter. I've been on the phone several times with both MSN & Apple, neither has been very much help in this situation. I can't imagine that i'm the only iMac user out there that has run into this problem, so if there is anyone out there that can give a fellow Mac'er a helping hand.....PPPPLEASE !!! images/icons/confused.gif

Does your imac fold it's arms and say "I Won't......... I won't I won't I WON'T!!!

Maybe your security settings are too high for msn... lol

or your web content settings.

Why would anyone want to use MSN or AOL?

The only reason for going to MSN was only because of a $400 store credit @ BestBuy.
other wise I would of switched to Earthlink.

Hi! I am having the exact same problem with my imac. Could you let me know how you fixed it? I had MSN working fine until I upgraded to OS X and now I can not figure out what the problem is but I get the authentication failed message and it is driving me insane. Any help would be appreciated thanks

Sounds like you all have smart iMacs to me. !

I am going to guess the problem is not having MSN Passport. You may have to sign up for it whether you want to or not. Be forewarned that it can be used as spyware.

Something else to try. Go to:

http://www.mactopia.com

You can link to the full Microsoft site from there. Explore the issue of signing on as a Mac user in their data base.

A bit of history: Until last month Microsoft did not support Macintoshes on its analaog and DSL services. It is possible they are still adapting in your area.

(Finally, all the hassle I went through with getting my DSL service and mistakenly being signed up and charged for MSN is somehow useful!)

Thanks for the help. I can't say I was ever a big fan of MS but after this MSN experience you better believe I am running out to buy a big fat 'Down with Microsoft' bumper sticker......................

Oh, you guys need to hipped to another aspect of MSN. Watch your bills. Not only will they charge someone who is not a MSN customer, they will charge too often and for services you don't have. I refused MSN once it became available to Mac users in my area considering the troubles it had already caused me. Good luck!

Why does everyone keep referring to MSN and Microsoft like they're the same thing? Microsoft does not run MSN anymore. They are a separate company. The Passport is a service of Microsoft, not MSN.

Also, anyone who is using Passport can note it is not required to use MSN Messenger, MSN Hotmail, ect. That's just a ploy by Microsoft to get people to sign up for Passport. They want the service to look as poular as possible, as they want the gov't to adopt it into proposed systems to verify everyone's identity on the internet. And M$'s using the number of registered users to argue how popular their service is. Although studies have shown only 1 in 10 Passport users actually use the service, most signed up because they thought they had to for their Hotmail, ect.

Alright, I'm finished being off-topic now...
