Updated to 3.0 on an "original" Edge iPhone. Updating went very smoothly. No glitches during the process at all.
Now to check it all out ...
New "Voice Memo" icon appeared in bottom right hand corner of home screen. Nice! Except it pushed the icon of the app that was located in that position to a second page, where it now appeared all by itself. The other apps being pushed to a third page. Hmmmm ... gotta lot of shuffling to do? Nope. Just needed to move that app to the third page and the now blank second page disappeared.
Tested Copy and Paste. Tried it between apps and email. Works pretty much as promised. Can't copy all text though. Formatted text embedded in some emails can't be copied. Maybe that text wasn't HTML or something? Dunno. I'm sure the experts have the answer. To the most part though, the one iPhone improvement a lot of us have been waiting for.
Email can be operated in landscape mode. Don't need to rely on the Easywriter app now I guess. "Search," a sweep to the right that reveals the familiar search window and keyboard. Very handy. So far no glitches at all. I really like this update. Nicely done, Apple!
Updated Evernote app to 3.0 as well. Prior to being able to update an app now, there's a message from Apple outlining the new terms and conditions that need to be agreed to, which among other things, include provisions for In App purchases, some of which can only be downloaded once and which cannot be transferred between devices.

Whew, that was scary... I didn't see the Restore coming, and all those disconnects. (Original iTouch.) The download (USA) was fast enough but the install was lengthy - it seems all my music and pictures made it back as well. "Original Settings" sounded ominous, but settings look OK. I'll have to check better later. I was in a hurry 'cause I may lose my I-connection for a while starting tomorrow.

just bought 8gb iPhone yesterday, tried to download/install the 3.0 update and the phone froze with the iTunes logo/USB cord. Technical can't fix it(days it's happening a lot), have to take the freakin' phone back to be replaced. Advanced planning.....Apple truly has perfected this oxymoron!

My iPhone 3G S will arrive tomorrow. Purchased on June 19. Does this unit 'need' the 3.0 Software Update? or is it already included in this new device?
Jim
Congrats on getting one after the late order, ATT says that it will take 2-3 weeks for some to get them. I think the Apple Store is faster though.
Your shiny new 3Gs will come pre-loaded with it, so all you'll need to do is run through the activation. The Apple Store had a two step process, but the only time it was connected to an iMac only took about a minute. Your next step will be to sync all your apps, music, and other goodies, then enjoy!
