Safari 4

I would have liked, in the Safari review article, to see some speed tests including real world loading of pages between browsers, in addition to the abstracted rendering tests and etc.
Safari seems snappier than Firefox for me, but, it would have been interesting to see how fast each loads, say, ign.com or something.

Safari 4 was great. 4.0.1 not so great. The update has slowed the 4 release, has returned the app to being a resource hog consuming larger amounts of CPU % than 4, and causing non-response freezes or kernal panics of the sort I've never seen. Be careful of the update.

Use the link for Mac OS X.
You might also put the Report Bug button into the toolbar (Customize Toolbar under the View menu) and use that, to communicate directly with the Safari team. I'd call the missing Reload button a major bug, considering the annoyance and the major break from established Web browser UI (it's been at the left of the address field in every browser since the first Netscape) -- for no good reason.

I reported the breakage both ways: via the general feedback link provided by HandyMac, as well as via the direct bug report tool within Safari itself.
Here's how I phrased it, in case anyone wants to borrow/adapt some portions for their own submission (although not as elaborate as some of what HandyMac has posted):
The reload button is broken, and so is the toolbar customization.
Specifically, the new position of the reload button way off in the boonies at the far end of the URL field is VERY difficult to use - my mouse is rarely over in that part of the screen, away from all the other buttons (such as the magnify text button, which I use on most pages).
And then, making that placement much worse, there's no longer any way to customize the toolbar to put the reload button back in a position where it's USABLE.
PLEASE FIX THIS - at least give us a customization option to move it. I got the new Safari the day it came out of beta, and I STILL stumble over this misplacement dozens of times every day - it has become the most annoying thing about using my Mac (which is normally, historically, completely free of such "pebble in your shoe" irritants).

I like Safari in many ways and would like to feel content using it, but there are a couple of things that bug me and bring me back to Firefox. First, there is no option (as far as I know) to have clicks on new links consistently open in a tab. Instead, regardless of the options checked ("open new apps in a tab"), Safari opens some links in the current tab (which is fine), but others in new windows, and one soon winds up with a bunch of open windows that to me are messier to work with than open tabs. With Firefox, pretty much everything opens in your current tab unless you tell it otherwise. I know you can force Safari to open links in new tabs with command-click. But, that is a bit of a nuisance and seems like it should be unnecessary just to prevent it from opening multiple windows. If there is a workaround to convince Safari to be more tab-friendly, please let me know.
The other issue for me is that there isn't any way to add icons to the bookmark bar. I find my eye much more quickly detects the icon (in Firefox) than the plain text in Safari. Again, if there is a work around, please let me know.
These 2 issues cost me more time than Safari gains for me in its quick page rendering.

I agree to everything. I also have my standard peeve about Safari 4.0 not blocking out pop-up windows and moving images from web pages. A major nuisance.
Th bookmarks is another issue. The bookmarks menu shows only bookmarks in the bookmarks menu. To see the rest one needs to open bookmarks in a tab and then open. In Camino all your bookmarks show up in one list folders and all under the pull down menu. How elegant!!
Perhaps, a new update would cure some of these ills.

Hey, yeah - I've always wondered about that. My working approach (and what I teach newbies) is that those other bookmarks (the ones that show in editing mode but not in the bookmarks menu) are simply pointless & useless, and to just create ALL your bookmarks under the "bookmarks menu" (or in the very useful "bookmarks bar", of course) - including nested folders, however deep one's collection (and sense of order) calls for.
So ... anyone know (or have any guesses) as to what these other bookmarks are for ... other than a place to store bookmarks that one can't actually use or get to in any useful way???
