We're upgrading two original iPhones to the iPhone 3G S. The old iPhones are either going in the glove compartment to feed my son's headrest screen on long roadtrips, or to relatives to get them hooked on Apple :)

Not planning to upgrade. I am still not included in announcement. With discounts I pay only $64 for base plan, and I thus do not qualify yet for the lower discounted price. $500 for a 32 GB is way too much money right now. Most of the features I have now in 3.0 upgrade of software. It is not worth it. Will wait for better deal in year when my two years are up (both carrier and price) and supposedly another major jump in phone at that time

I currently own an iPhone 3G 16GB (bought on launch day last year). I would love to have 32GB, but I'm planning (for now) to stick it out another year, and hope that Apple has a Verizon iPhone next year.
My reason for wanting a Verizon iPhone is that I live in the Midwest, and although I have 3G in Lincoln, NE, I have no service when I visit family in South Dakota. Everyone I know is pretty much on Verizon anyway. So here's to hoping.

I wanted to share my recent AT&T experiences with the iPhone crowd on the group.
I just spent over an hour on the phone with AT&T's customer retention dept. and while I was discussing my account and iphone status with the supervisor I said if there was any other carrier I could take my iphone to I would in a heartbeat she said that in February 2010 I would be able to. I asked what did that mean I thought you had a contract until like 2011 with Apple and she well yes and no. Yes we have a contract with apple for the GSM version of the iphone until 2011 but we do not have a contract for a CDMA iphone. She said that Verizon signed a contract with Apple for the iphone and they are working right now to prep their system to support the phone. She also told me that in about 2-3 weeks AT&T would be able to provide MMS for no extra charge and tethering service for $55.
At the end of the call I was able to get a credit of $175 dollars on my account for being a loyal customer..... and yes I have another 2 year contract with AT&T that starts tomorrow.

Yes, I will upgrade my classic iPhone to a new 3G S. The most compelling reason to me is the 32 GB. Compared to my iPod 5G, the iPhone has been an exercise in constantly manipulating playlists, and a big time sink. The 3G's 16 GB max just wasn't enough. The other stuff -- compass, GPS, voice control -- are all cool too :-)
I held off on the 3G, in large part because of AT&T's pricing. I have the $20/month unlimited data including 200 SMS. The 3G's data plan is $30 plus $5 for the same text package. That's a 75% increase and just wasn't worth it to me ($360 over two years).
I would not switch to Verizon (I have never had such awful experiences with "customer service" as I've had with Verizon), but I'd sure love to see some competition among the carriers.

I will upgrade from classic iPhone to 3GS in a couple of months. It's a shame that I will have to stick with AT&T for another 2 years. I don't like the service and coverage in my area is really bad (browsing speeds are so slow, especially because I'm using EDGE), but I want to continue enjoying iPhone. If verizon offered this phone, I would switch carriers.

Sorry, I prefer my dirt-cheap Motorola dumbphone (with great reception/call quality with a T-Mobile Pay-As-You-Go plan) plus my iPod touch.
I average about $2/mo. in calling charges. The keys to all of this are: A.) the awesome free Google Voice account, and B.) free Gizmo5 VoIP account.
