There are also several GPS loggers ("geologger") applications for the iPhone (such as GeoLogTag) that keep a running, time-stamped, history of where you've been. This info can then be automatically matched up with your photos, to add geotag info. The advantage is that you don't have to remember to go through the manual steps, however I wonder how it affects battery life.

Wow, I did not even think this was a possible App on the iPhone. I was set to get some bluetooth/dongle or a stand alone GPS to geo-tag my photos.
What would be even better is a review of the several geo-tagging Apps currently in the App store...

I'm using GeoLogTag for a couple of months now to geotag my photos and it's so much easier than the workflow explained in the article above. It just costs $5 and offers me a 3 step workflow:
1. GeoLogTag tracks my location continuously while I take photos
2. GeoLogTag geotags my photos on my Mac over WiFi
3. I import my photos in iPhoto and they automatically show up in Places.

This is a manual process, but it works. I use Google Earth to locate the latitude and longitude of the place where the picture was taken then simply enter that into iPhoto. It works great for all those old photos in iPhoto that were taken before places in iPhoto or a GPS equipped camera.

well I think its a great Idea and if I had a iPhone or one that had GPS I would do that. But I am going to get the GPS for my next Nikon camera which most likely be a D300 or the "D400" because I take a lot of photos somewhere in the thousands all over the area. so to do it the way the Perfessor101 would do it I would be up very very late.. But hey it is a great Article.
