YES! with a caveat or two...
Me: 17" MBP 8GB RAM 7200/320 - used disks that came with machine-sonnetech 21n1 reader in express slot
formated as GUID and did a fresh install to a 16GB Sandisk Extreme (30/MBs edition)
WOULD NOT BOOT!
then, i remembered something i read: command I brings up ownership of SD card
i UNchecked IGNORE ownership of this volume

rebooted with sd card and VOILA! BADA-BING!

here is the caveat:did the samee gig with a 32GB Sandisk ULTRA (15/MB/s edition
would not boot at all... still haven't figured out why....

"15-inch 2GHz Core 2 Duo MacBook Pro (February 2006)"
Did they make a MacBook with a Core 2 Duo in Feb of 2006? I thought the first MacBooks came out in Jan of 06 and came with a Core Duo? Mine that I bought in July of 2006 has a Core Duo. Pretty sure the Core 2 Duos did not come out till late 2006. Perhaps this is a typo?

I didn't view the video so this question may have been answered already. There are 2 start up discs, disc 1 and disc 2, how is this handled?

I have a 64GB USB flash drive that I formatted the way that was reccommended for my 1st gen Intel Mac Pro. I could not boot from this drive even thoug it was reconized as containing a bootable system by the StartUp Drive program. This was true whether I started from scratch with my OS 10.5.6 DVD or cloning my OS 10.5.7start up partition.

Later when I have a large enough CF card I'll use my SanDisk FW800 card reader & see if that will work.

It seems like a waste of time though as 2.5" drives in a FW800 case does the best job. The USB thumb drive took a few hours to get a system on it. The FW800 CF card or SD cardwould do a lot better time wise. I'm just like everyone else here I like to try things. MicroMat has a FW unit that will work so if we have problems then we need to know what they are doing differently.

I've run my Intel Mac Pro from my emergency startup drive for a week or more in the past. I have a 500GB 2.5" drive that has plenty of roo for the OS, some important utilities & the programs that I need to operate my business in a day to day running. The drive will also startup my 17" 1.67 GHz PPC PowerBook as well. It is not so small & pretty, but it just plain works.

I think all the Intel macs can boot off SD cards...I wonder if the
macbook that didn't work was simply because of different hardware codes
used? Using the combo update was a smart idea, but I wonder if there
might be something else.

Simple question: During the start-up, how do you cause the Mac to boot from the card? Key combo?
