You've got your character counts mixed up. SMS messages are limited to 160 characters. Twitter is limited to 140.

You know what I like about Apple, is that they have Miller working on it right away and obviously public about it! No secret update or later system pack ;-)

You can use this flaw to deliver new code to the iPhone that runs with root access? Problem solved: Apple can just send a fix to everyone via SMS!

it's not that they got the character count mixed up dude. they said 140 bytes of data. one character is not equal to one byte. therefore SMS is 140 bytes a.k.a. 160 characters, and twitter is 140 characters, as you said.

So, characters are no longer 8-bit or 16-bit?
In any case, fixing 3 or 4 files will once again cause a download of 200+ MB. Will Apple fix this any time soon or will it be part of iPhone OS 4.0 in 2010?
