Yes, they are cute. But I have been using adhesive wire "saddles" for years. Radio Shack has a ten-pack for $5.49 (278-1640). I use some made by 3M to "guide and hold" external drive cables on the underside of a desktop shelf. AND (I am not anal-retentive - honest) I have labelled each of the cable ends with our LabelMaker.

I went to Radio Shack.com to check that item number out

and they are those crappy little things that rarely stay stuck to the surface you put them on...

these are much higher quality and I like the pics that show it being used to hold the cables in place when you have removed the computer...but I just want to have one color for all of them

what you are talking about is for guiding the cables along things...this is for keeping them in place so you can get to them...and they don't fall to the floor once they are disconnected from what they are connected to

anyway...thanks for the info gave me something to check into

The 3M clips I purchased from Home Depot have been securely in place for three years on the BOTTOM of a shelf, each holding either one or two cables. I should have re-worded my original post, to point folks to the Radio Shack clips as what to look for at other retailers ... but with 3M adhesive!

#3 on that list is something I've always thought would work well. For me personally, I have a hutch on my desk and run my cables through some loose gaps in it. Those cables aren't going anywhere. For the ones I need to remove often, I just wrap them around the side of my desk, and since my desk is against the wall, the wall acts like a block. Seems to work well enough.

I was on their website and all of their products are simple yet seem to make such a difference. I kept going, "oh , I want this" It's the kind of products that make people say "why didn't I think of that".
I think I might be buying the CableDrops. I know there are other cheaper products but these also look nice so you can have them on top of your desk.

The idea is neat and clean, but I have used a strip of plywood attached to the back of the desk with slots cut into the top edge for the cables, one per slot - much cheaper.
What I REALLY would like to get hold of is a bunch of USB cables in various colors. I know one brand has colored lights on the ends whilst busy, but that still doesn't help tracing a wire through the spaghetti-like mess behind the desk.

That why Brother label systems exist ... Order some white-on-black tape and label your cables' ends!

As a matter of fact, I do label each end. The reason for having the cables themselves colored is when you try to remove one, it is almost impossible to pull it through the tangle of wires, even though I try to keep them neat. If I could reach down into the tangle and work the right cable loose it would be sooo much easier.
