I have a 2008 Macbook that has been having problems lately with its keyboard and trackpad. Among the problems:

- volume keys don't work
- trackpad recognizes tap-click even when feature is turned off in System Preferences
- when highlighting text, almost always highlights the wrong section
- unintentional clicks and drags

These problems persist even after changing settings in System Preferences. I have also zapped the PRAM but the problem continues. Something is broken with regards to the keyboard and trackpad.

Does anyone know how to solve this?

Do you have something pressing against the space to the right of the track pad?

And for the volume keys- check in system preferences that you don't have the setting for holding down fn.
