I did a sync on my Apple Tv this morning. i Tunes was opened for the first time since the update. 17 songs were added to Apple TV. The update didn't fix that problem. I love all my Apple products; i Phone, i Pod, MacBook Pro, but the Apple TV is a big disappointment.

Their are numerous Apple TV sync issues which users either misunderstand or which may exist as "bugs" but it appears that your report has absolutely no bearing on the problem that was discussed by Ted Landau. What do you mean by "17 songs were ADDED to Apple TV"? The bug that Ted documented involved the DELETION of DRM-protected content from the Apple TV.

I do understand the difference with sync issues and the settings as well as the "bugs". Various non DRM material are DELETED then ADDED when a sync done. This is still continuing after the update on my unit. Are you clear now ?

What about the continuing issue of HD content suddenly not working. This was related to the Apple TV sync, namely, if you had the option checked to automatically sync with Apple TV checked (checked by default) then the machine you were on would not display HD content. (Known colloquially as the 'White Screen of Death" you would get audio, but only a white screen.) Unchecking resolved the issue for a while, but the last time I tried to watch an HD video purchased through iTunes, it again wouldn't work.
I haven't changed any hardware or any settings. Toggling the Sync to Apple TV did nothing for me. I unregistered and re-registered the machine, rebooting between actions. This did not work. Restarting iTunes did not work. I noticed a reappearance of the White Screen of Death post iTunes 8.2 I'm pissed and want a refund for the HD movies I bought.
Fortunately, 8.2 got a new feature in Preferences: always play in SD.
