iPhone 3GS gets jailbroken, hack available online

I use XP Pro on my MacBook Pro (quite the pro, aren't I?), so I often poke around the PC World site.
May I say, it is NOT the PC equivalent of Macworld; the bunch of writers and editors here (Jason, Dan, Chris, etc.) come across as reasonable guys who like Macs but whose coverage of Microsoft and PCs, when they mention them at all, is evenhanded.
At PC World, however, front page headlines often lead not to journalistic pieces but to hacks writing under the protection of 'hey, it's a blog; I can say anything I want.'
Check out their 'reportage' of the iPhone's 'overheating problem.' Apple has posted information for idiots who think it's okay to keep a metallic electronic device in the sun for hours and then expect it to be cool to the touch; PC World's spin? Apple admits the 'overheating problem' and blames users.
They're the Fox News of PC reporting.

why break the law, when you can buy a nokia n97 with cheapr price and more feature?

The amount of time people waste customizing and tinkering with their phones is amazing. The most ironic part is of all the things phones are used for now, making phone calls probably isn't even second on the list. Life's too short, but if you've got nothing better to do, by all means.....

And yet, nearly a year ago, by "tinkering" with my phone I was able to shoot movies, tether, copy and paste, and search the contents of my iPhone -- all features that we now celebrate in the 3GS. Or do you find these features a waste of time?

And I'm still going to have to jailbreak in order to live stream using the Ustream or Qik app.
BTW I can understand why Apple might not want to deal with the tech support on some of these features so may not implement but they should at least allow those who want to to jailbreak and take the position that such "features" will not be supported. If something goes awry one can do a restore.

I am an engineer who is now retired from Apple. The FCC is looking at exclusive contracts such as Apple's. However I think that is it fair to point out that this likely would not even have become an issues if Apple had not locked us in jail with AT&T, a bunch of unsavory characters who had their "way with us;" while Apple the warden looked the other way.
After 5 years of no signal in an area that has been built up extensively with condo's, townhouses and single homes, the service is still almost zero. Upon contacting Apple they were surprised to hear this as they have so many iPhone employees in the area. The answer is pretty simple. Almost everyone I've met admits to having broke their phones to use T-Mobile in this area which is very strong. G3 is so poor in comparison to Wi-Fi that G3 is never missed. AT&T's answer, which is after all the typical Texas company, is that yes we know about your area, we need an additional tower, but we have no plans to fix it even though we have been receiving complaints ever since we bought cingular. By the way this area is known as "Communications Hill."
AT&T, formally Southwestern Bell if it had not been for the political hack at the FCC would never been allowed to expand to the size it is without sufficient working capital for infrastructure improvements. Neither their land lines, Uverse, Dish or mobile phones work well because they can only afford to patch as I have been told by their technicians. They are suffering from financial indigestion from buying too many failing companies, and with all the debt servicing cannot afford real infrastructure improvments. New cell towers in Boston and New York will not help the bay area.
