I recently purchased Leopard to upgrade from Tiger (10.4.11) on my imac G4 20" USB 2. My superdrive will not mount the DVD and I tried several other DVD movies and none will mount.
The Tiger install DVD will mount and I have successfully burned a DVD, ejected and re-mounted it.
The Leopard DVD will mount on two other machines.

I have found several posts of similar issues on Apple's discussion forums but no solution.
It would seem that at some point in the upgrade process to 10.4.11, some types of superdrives stopped mounting some types of DVD including Apple's own Leopard install DVD.

In an effort to work around this, I tried mounting the DVD on a friends machine, copying the contents to an external FireWire drive and then installing on my imac from that drive. When that didn't work, I tried copying from the external drive to the imacs's internal drive and installing from there. That doesn't work either.

Any help will be gratefully received, Happy 4th.

-Hi,

I also found Leo a byte stubborn installing on our DP G4 1.25GHz on one of the internal HDs. It actually took 3 tries to boot from the install disc. Did you try inserting the disc-->shutdown-->boot holding the C key? It can be frustrating.

Yes, tried that while on the phone with Apple support. The drive makes slow cyclic, light clunking noises for a minute and then ejects.
Thanks for helping though.
