I recently ugraded the hard drive and memory in a 233mhz Wallstreet and tried to install OSX on it.When the installer starts up it does not recognize the hard drive and obviously wont let me install it. I tried Norton Utilities and the hard drive does not show up. I I put the old 4GB hard drive back in and it shows up.It is a new hard drive so I don't know what is wrong. Any suggestion? Thank you

Kinda old isn't it?
What you should do is reformat the new drive, you can do this with disk utility by booting from an OS X disk. Whenever you get a new drive, the first thing you should do is reformat it.

The installer does not give me that option. I understand that new hard drives have to be formatted but the installer does not recognize the hard drive.I have formatted new drives on my macbook and ibook and have never had this issue.

Not the installer- open disk utility from the install disk

Thank you so much. I know it's old but it's a gift for a first time mac user and it was cheap. Thanks again. haven't used OSX in so long I had forgotten.

No there is another issue. When I went to partition the hard drive I partitioned in in two equal partitions instead of one at 8GB.When I try to install it is grayed out.I went back to repartition but it is locked and asking for an administrator password which I do not have. What now?I am ready to pull my hair out!!!!!

I found the disk utility and went ot partition th ehard drive, which has to be done on a Wallstreet. I thought I partitioned it correctly but when I went to install OSX on the hard drives the two partitioned drive were grayed out.I went back to the disk utility and tried to repartition it but it asked for a password to the root administrator, which I do not have.I went to the reset password option but it says there are no availiable users to rest their password.I am stuck!

I'm not very familiar with the wallstreet- why do you have to partition? Doesn't make much sense- and what OS are you currently running? There are a number of solutions, but it depends on what OS you have- and I'd suggest trying the last password you had on your admin account for the root, that might work.

Ok I was able to reset the password but now I can only format the disks into two even sizes. I need one to be 8 mb.

well it says you have to split the hard drive and partition one at no more than 8 GB otherwise the hard drives are grayed out when I try to install them.
