I'd suggest pages, but if not, maybe just MS word, or NeoOffice, but check out this thread from a while ago:

Edit: that was one of the first threads i posted in here on the mw forums, rereading it now I'm getting a little nostalgic, lol

It might be helpful for us to know which of "the same things" you're looking to do with Mac software. We might be able to offer a few alternatives.

Also: if you have a copy of publisher already bought, you can always emulate with CrossOver or use boot camp or virtualize for windows. A little cumbersome, but doable.

When I do a multi-page layout, I can have all kinds of clipart on my screen around my layout to move in or out of my project. Also on pages, I can't seem to move clipart or text blocks around the page like I want. I really want to get away from MS and get into a good Mac program,

Adobe InDesign will do everything publisher does and more.

Depending on your needs, it might be a little bit expensive if it's not for intensive professional use.

Microsoft Publisher simply filled the void left by Adobe?s decision to drop PageMaker, which was cross platform. Mac users involved in desktop publishing have always used the industry standards: Quark Xpress and, more recently, Adobe InDesign. Both applications are professional level and therefore expensive. Of hand, with ACDSee killing the Mac version of Canvas?which was a multi-purpose graphics application with strong page layout features?, I cannot think of any non-professional Mac desktop publishing applications.

As to Apple?s Pages, it is primarily a word processor like Microsoft?s Word. Pages has stronger page layout features than Word, but it is not intended to compete in the desktop publishing space.

I doubt you'll need such professional software as InDesign, however, I do recall that Adobe offers free trials of their products, its certainly worth a try.
