Honorable mention and possible Rookie of the Year contender nomination should go to iTwitter. A few days ago, it caught the Twitter Trends by storm with its combination of all the good things the other Twitter apps had with one notable but hurtful exception - no trends. The interface was acceptable and slick in some instances. It also claims to have push but it's been spotty (probably because they also need to be using iTwitter as well. Lame, IMHO).
Of course, it sounds more glass half empty but with this debut, it potentially can get better though subsequent releases and is worth getting.

UPDATE: It's initial release on the iTunes store had it listed as a free app but they have since changed the price to $3.99 which is a little on the heavy side of the cost spectrum. Tweetie is currently $2.99 and it should be in their best interest to at least match that price.

I also see that TweetDeck isn't mentioned as well. It's still free and loaded with features that will make desktop fans of TweetDeck happy. It's interface differs from the others but it's unique enough to give it a test run.

Great roundup of full Twitter clients. There's another category of app: the tweet reader.
These apps come pre-configured with a list of twitterer accounts related in some way, making it really easy to find and keep track of certain kinds of people.
One example is politicoTracker Twitter Edition, which is one of our apps available on the App Store (we're the developer). It's list of elected official's feeds is constantly updated to the device, and now stands at about 360 politicians.
Why use a tweet reader?
1) Easy to find specific people.
2) You don't need a twitter account to use it.
3) If you have an account, you don't need to clutter your regular timeline with governmentals.
In other words:
--You don't need to follow to keep up!
Personally I use TwitterFon - it does the job well and I don't need the extra features, for now, anyway.
