Hello all,

I'm running Tiger on a Macbook from July 2007. Two days ago I started up the computer and got the flashing question mark, so I plan to check the hard drive using disk utility, and if it's okay, I plan to do an erase and install.

I've read that it may be difficult to get iPhoto back after erase and install, but as long as it's on one of the discs that came with the computer, I can do a custom installation. My problem is that I cannot find an answer online as to whether iPhoto will be on the discs that came with Tiger.

Can anyone help?

Kind of drastic measures don't you think? the erase and install that is

But the Question Mark calls for drastic measures.

1. Yes do get the discs that came with your computer - you do have the original discs correct?

2. Yes use the disc utility from the disc and maybe things will clear up.

3. You have religiously backed up your system correct?

4. If iphoto was originally on your disc it will re-install when you do the re-install.

5. But why an erase and install instead of an archive and install?

Thanks for your answer. Yes, I just recently backed up all my important files. I may do an archive and install. My question about that is, what do I do with the folder the backup is contained in once I finish the reinstall and everything is working properly? I have a small iTunes folder I'd like to extract. How easy is that? Once I extract the iTunes music, can I put the folder in the trash or will I have to keep it forever?

Okay 1st things 1st:
So I'm assuming you've found the original install disc and you used it to boot the computer and you used
the disc utility on it to fix the file system in the hard drive?

On the archive and install a previous system folder will be created. To that don't be in a hurry to get rid of it - because obviously there might be something you need in it.
After you do the archive and install you can ask the itunes question...

Thanks for your replies Tom, but it turned out my hard drive was bad. I installed a new one, but I haven't gotten my system functioning yet. The installation of disk 1 went off quickly and without problems, but disk 2 refuses to load. I've tried multiple times and the disk is clean, but it still won't work. The computer asks me to insert disk 2, but the computer does not recognize the disk and ejects it after about a minute. I've tried to start up with the disk already in the drive, and that doesn't work either. Apparently this is a common problem because there are a lot of messages about it on other forums. Unfortunately though, I haven't found a solution other than to type in a script, which I've never done before and am not comfortable with.
