Hi all,

I just posted a question about an erase and install of my HD, but it turns out my drive is broken. I purchased a Western Digital HD that the salesperson said would fit in my Macbook. I took the cover off my old HD and put in on the new one, and everything went fine. But when I tried to put the new drive in the computer, it wouldn't slide in smoothly. It seems too big, though it fits perfectly in the case. I took a close look, and the silver cover on the hard drive seems like it may be bit bigger than the one on the original drive.

Should I just use a little more force and push it in, or is it possible the hard drive is actually too big?

Thanks!

Update:

I used a flashlight to look into the hole the drive fits into, and there's a piece of black rubber about 3 inches long by half an inch wide that doesn't look like it should be there. It's covering the two ports for the hard drive. Is it possible I moved it while taking out and putting in the drive, and if so, is there anything I can do about it?

This process seemed so simple in the articles I read, but it's turning out to be quite a hassle.

Thanks again.

Thanks to anyone who read this thread, but I've solved the issue myself. The strip of rubber belongs on the side of the drive space, so I put it back on there and the hard drive went in fine.
